The TowneBank Coastal Virginia Wine Fest

is a two-day event scheduled for January 25-26 at the Virginia Beach Convention Center.

The event celebrates Virginia wine

with tastings, educational seminars and entertainment. Up to 90 vendors—including over 30 Virginia wineries—will be on hand to make this winter weekend one to remember.

Each program, lead by a wine expert and with a panel of field experts, brings an informative and fun education component to the event, enticing guests to take their wine enthusiasm to the next level. 1:00 PM Wine FUNdamentals: The basics of swirling and sipping

Learn how to swirl and sip like a pro, from the pros, in this discussion that goes through the basics of wine analysis from the visual to the olfactory to the taste. Along the way, we’ll sample a number of Virginia wine types and take tasting notes.

3:00 PM Virginia Viognier: The Old Dominion against the world tasting and comparison

Viognier has become Virginia’s signature grape, besting out other Viogniers from across the world. In this workshop we’ll talk about the importance of Viognier to Virginia, and sample a number of vintages from the Old Dominion and abroad

While wine is a wonderful accompaniment to a meal, it can also be a sweet ending as well. We look at a number of sweet and dessert wines, and their role in food pairings, especially chocolate, and vintages that stand on their own as a nectarous treat.

Too often wine is seen as a pairing only with fine foods, but we feel it has a rightful place on any table. In this workshop we look at some favorite American cuisine classics, from hamburger to pizza, and pick the perfect wines to pair with them.

Cheese is a perfect pairing with wine, and here we look at how to pick the perfect vintage – Virginia of course – and match it up with some common cheeses you’ll find in your neighborhood market.

Grape Stomping Competition:

Watch favorite local Hampton Roads celebrities compete for bragging rights and purple-stained extremities. Teams of two (one stomper and one swabby) will compete in hopes of being named the weekend’s greatest grape stomp team. This competition will take place at the B&T Kitchens & Baths main stage Saturday & Sunday at 3:00 p.m.

Purchase tickets in advance online for $40 until December 31st, $45 thereafter and $50 at the door. General tickets include unlimited tastings, complimentary commemorative wine glass, seminar access, live entertainment and great times!

Please note “No food and beverages outside of the event are allowed inside the convention center”.

A limited number of VIP tickets—allowing for private tastings, special seating and catered hors d’oeuvres—will be available for $80 in advance.

General admission is $22.50 and is a non drinking ticket.

Five dollars of all online ticket sales will be donated to the TowneBank Foundation.
